 For those of you within driving distance to Tulsa, Oklahoma, AtariAge will be present at the upcoming Oklahoma Gaming Expo with an assortment of new homebrew games and demos! The show, taking place September 18th at the Marriott Tulsa Southern Hills, will see the debut of new homebrew games for the Atari 2600, 5200 and ColecoVision, as well as demos of games in development for these same systems.  Paul Slocum, author of the popular Atari 2600 Synthcart Synthcart and member of the retro band Tree Wave, made an appearance on G4TechTV Friday evening. Paul was interviewed for the latest episode of ScreenSavers, where he talked about some of his Atari 2600 projects, his band, and showed some designs he drew up for Atari 2600 games while he was in elementary school. If you missed the initial showing, you should be able to catch a future airing.

 Atari today announced the Atari Flashback Classic Game Console, a stand-alone, plug-and-play console with 20 built-in classic Atari games (including Saboteur, a game unreleased by Atari back in the day). The Atari Flashback is a hybrid of the Atari 2600 and 7800 consoles, and modeled to resemble the Atari 7800. Included with the console are two Atari 7800-style joysticks, a power supply and a cable to connect the unit to your television. The Atari Flashback goes on sale in November with a suggested retail price of $44.95.  Matt Reichert of AtariProtos.com has posted a large update to his site, adding several new reviews of prototype games as well as updates to existing reviews. This latest update includes new pages for the 2600 games Meltdown, Targ, Survival Run, the unknown Universal Prototype, Escape From The Mind Master, X-Man, Radar Lock, as well as the 7800 games Rescue on Fractalus, Barnyard Blaster, and Dark Chambers.  Version 0.60 of the up-and-coming Atari 7800 emulator EMU7800 has been released and is now available for downloading. The latest version contains the following improvements:- Added support for the Stelladaptor controller
- Recognizes the now correct 7800 NTSC BIOS
- Numerous minor fixes and documentation updates

 Version 0.86 of MESS (the Multi Emulator Super System) is now available for Windows and Unix. Changes in this version include driver improvements for various systems (including Amstrad, C16, MSX, PC, and Telmac TMC-600), as well as several improvements to the Windows user interface.  Mike Stulir of Back in Time has posted three new episodes for your listening pleasure. First off is an interview with the "Father of Computer Games" Sid Meier, recorded at PhillyClassic 4. Sid appeared briefly on the E3 webcast in 2001, and Mike Stulir was able to have a more in-depth conversation with him this time around. The second episode is from the 5th Annual Funspot Tournament. The third episode was recorded at PhillyClassic 5 and features Howard Scott Warshaw, who speaks at length about the development of games like Yars' Revenge, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Saboteur.  Organizers of the North Carolina Atari and Classic Game Convention (NCACGC) have announced they will be holding their show this year on the first Friday through Sunday of October at the Glitter Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina. The convention will play host to a number of classic video game vendors who will be selling hardware and software from the early days of the video game industry. Other highlights of the convention include a variety of classic video game systems setup for unlimited play, live music, special guests, door prizes, tournaments, and trading.  Chris Hutt has posted a recent update to his Atari XL/XE Space Harrier Conversion Project page. This ambitious project aims to port the popular Sega arcade game Space Harrier to the Atari XL/XE computers. Chris' latest diary entry details his most recent work, such as optimizing the graphics format for objects, improving the "man dying routines" so they are more faithful to the original, changes to the background drawing, and other general improvements to the game.  Curt Vendel of AtariMuseum.com recently uncovered several Atari 7800 prototypes, including the unreleased game Rescue on Fractalus. While the game is not complete, it is fairly far along, runs pretty smoothly, and can be played with the excellent MESS emulator. To start the game after firing it up, press "R" (Reset) in MESS. There is a glitch in the emulation right now with the rendering of your view outside the cockpit, but we expect this will be fixed in an upcoming release of MESS.  Version 0.9.1 of KStella, a Linux KDE frontend for the Atari 2600 Stella emulator, is now available. Changes in this latest version of KStella include:- Fixed a bug where ROMs with the '#" symbol wouldn't appear in the ROM list.
- Added a progress dialog box when loading ROM information from disk.
- Fixed problem with compiling on Mandrake 9.2 when using older versions of QT.
- Finally fixed the long-standing bug where KDE items (icons, rc files, etc.) would be installed in the wrong places. This was due to a bug in the configure script generated by KDevelop. That's what I get for relying on a GUI development environment.
- Tested this release on Mandrake 9.2 and 10.0, Libranet 2.8.1 (Debian) and Suse 9.0.

 A new version of the Atari 2600 emulator Stella has been released. Stella 1.4.1 includes several improvements and bug fixes over the recent 1.4 release:- Fixed PAL sound issues
- Cleaned up the SDL event gathering loop
- Fixed a bug with Control and Alt keys
- Updated stella.pro file to work the latest Good2600 ROMset
- Windows: ROM files no longer need to be named *.bin
- Windows: Fixed problems with SDL library and Win98
- OSX: Added preference to allow selection of ROM directory
- OSX: Fixed bug where Preferences not always saved

Version 0.85 of MESS (the Multi Emulator Super System) is now available for Windows. This latest version of MESS adds the Coleco FunVision as a new emulated system, and includes various fixes to help improve emulation of Activision games in the Atari 2600 emulation.  Video game enthusiast David Ellis' new book, The Official Price Guide To Video Games, has seen its official release today and is now available for purchase. Covering just about every video arcade, handheld, and console video game released between 1971 and 1984, the book includes a price guide as well as information and advice on all aspects of collecting (such as where to buy, how to determine value, and even basic arcade game restoration and repair).  A new video game magazine titled Pocket Videogames has been launched in France. This new magazine covers pocket video games, including the GBA, GP32, PSP, WonderSwan, NeoGeo Pocket, Atari Lynx, and other portable game systems. Included in the magazine's first issue are reviews of three Lynx games: Alpine Games, Road Riot, and Lynx Reloaded. Lynx news and other Lynx-related items are also included.
