One-on-One Basketball for the 7800 may not be the best version of this game on the market, but it was the one that nabbed the most press. Not only did the game have a commercial with Spudd Webb saying, "I can finally play with the big boys", it was featured in TV Guide's "Holiday Guide to Video Games"? where it received an "A-". One-on-One's score edged out NES' Double Dribble score of a "B", and the reviewer claimed it was the best basketball game on the market. Later that year Nintendo released a One-on-One with Michael Jordan. The Atari 7800 version features Larry Bird and Dr. J, and the infamous shattering backboard sequence. One-on-One has several nice gameplay options to lengthen replay value, although one has to wonder why the game opens with Larry Bird missing a free throw. (Contributed by Cousin Vinnie Vineyard) |
