It is debatable which vertical scroller is better: The 7800's Commando or Ikari Warriors. Whatever port you choose, you have to admit both games are excellent. Ikari Warriors is based on the 1987 SNK coin-op and was released for the Pro System in 1989. Sadly, this is another fun title released late in the life of the Atari 7800 that is difficult to find. The game is great for one player, but unlike many games released these days, the simultaneous co-op play makes the mission at hand easier,
not more frustrating. This jungle adventure has no level breaks-it's just non-stop action until the last enemy. There are hordes of power-ups, different weapons, and testosterone boosting explosions that sometimes take up almost half the screen. Plus, you can drive a tank. What is cooler than that? This was one of four games featured in Atari's "Get In a Fight After School" 7800 ad campaign. (Contributed by Cousin Vinnie Vineyard) |
